An 18-year-old boy, Tope Momoh has been remanded in Akure following the order of the Chief Magistrate Court, Akure for killing his mother.
The PUNCh disclosed that Tope strangled her mother to death during an argument in Ikakumo, Akoko Community, Akoko North-East, Local Government Area of the state on September 6, 2022.
The defendant was arraigned before the court with murder case.
According to the prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, Tope killed his mother for calling him a bastard in the middle of the night, explaining that he confessed two weeks after the burial of his mother
The prosecutor noted that no one knew the cause of the woman’s death until the boy finally confessed.
Akintimehin noted that the offence contravenes, Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a custodial centre, pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The defendant while speaking in court said “I did not have a rest since my mother has been buried. So, I was forced to confess that I strangled her to death. I want the court to show me mercy.”
However,the Chief Magistrate ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till October 20, 2022.
