In what may be considered a last-minute effort to save his political career from doom, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has reportedly made moves to reconcile with his erstwhile political benefactor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that in a rather shocking development, Aregbesola who is a former governor of Osun State, had publicly lambasted the APC National Leader, saying he trusted Tinubu who he considered a leader, but was repaid with betrayal by the former Lagos State governor.
The genesis of the cold war dates back to the alleged imposition of Tinubu’s cousin, Gboyega Oyetola as Aregbesola’s successor — which offended the minister.
To demonstrate his displeasure with his successor Oyetola who is seeking a second term in office, Aregbesola who leads a faction of the Osun APC, endorsed a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti to clinch the APC guber ticket.
Interestingly, the incumbent governor emerged winner at the primaries held on Saturday. In a statement issued by his media aide, Aregbesola described the exercise as a sham.
Following the disgraceful loss of his man, what would become of Aregbesola’s political career became the biggest question on the lips of actors in the Osun political circle, as many argued that the minister was heading for a political doom.
However, BlackBox Nigeria has learnt that the ex-governor and his erstwhile political mentor, Tinubu were both sighted at the palace of Alaafin of Oyo, HRM Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in Oyo Town, Oyo State.
Though the meeting is said to be part of consultative efforts by Tinubu who is eyeing the presidency, there are indications that it might be an opportunity for both parties to reconcile their differences.
