At its first live event since the pandemic started, Apple unveiled the iPhone 14 lineup in addition to updates to the Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.
The tech giant unveiled the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, and several new safety features, some of which it claims could save your life. The Apple Watch Series 8 and the Watch Ultra, a smartwatch designed specifically for athletes, were among the new models the company unveiled. Additionally, Apple unveiled the updated version of its premium wireless earbuds, the AirPods Pro.
The entry-level iPhone 14 models, which include a 6.1-inch model and a new, larger Plus model with a 6.7-inch display, were unveiled by Apple. Both come in five colors and have longer battery life. The ability to detect a car crash and satellite connectivity for sending emergency messages are featured in the iPhone14 models that enhance user safety. On September 16, the smaller iPhone 14 will go on sale for $799; on October 7, the larger iPhone 14 Plus will go on sale for $899. The A15 chip in iPhone 13 models is present in these entry-level models. The company also revealed that phones would have an eSIM, enabling customers to connect to carriers without a SIM card. Additionally, switching carriers will be less complicated.
Apple also unveiled two iPhone 14 Pro models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. Apple now refers to the “notch” housing the Face ID and camera sensors as a “dynamic island.” The top of the phone’s screen is still black, but now a narrow band of background activity is also highlighted there.
The performance of the Pro iPhones is enhanced by a new chip, the A16 Bionic, and by having an always-on display that displays the time and other information while using less power. On September 16, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be offered for $999 and $1,099, respectively.
Apple updated the smaller, more expensive wireless earbuds known as AirPods Pro. They now have a new H2 chip and other features that enhance noise cancellation and the “spatial audio,” or three-dimensional sound effect. The six-hour battery life of the AirPods Pro includes a feature that lets users locate a misplaced case. The new pair will go on sale for $249 on September 23.
Apple also unveiled a new smartwatch lineup, including the Apple Watch Series 8, which has a temperature-sensing feature that the company claims can help women estimate when ovulating. The Series 8 will also include crash detection, which new internal sensors will enable. The Series 8 with GPS will cost $399, and the cellular model will cost $499 when it is released on September 16.
The Apple Watch Ultra, a new model of the company’s smartwatch targeted at athletes, has features like a titanium case made to withstand extreme environments. The Ultra, with rounded edges, is aimed at divers and swimmers and offers improved GPS, depth sensing, and measurement capabilities. Apple will begin selling the device on September 23 for $799.
The company also revealed a SE model, the product’s entry-level model, which it claims is 20% faster than the previous version. The SE model with GPS will set you back $249.
