In what seems to be a predicted victory, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Charles Soludo is currently on a winning streak in the ongoing governorship election in Anambra State as official results tickle in from local government areas.
Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has won eight LGAs: Aguata, Orumba North, Onitsha South, Awka South, Anaocha, Anambra East, Orumba South and Njikoka.
He won against his top contenders, Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Aguata Local Government Area, the trio’s home council.
As at the time of filing this report, APGA has recorded 4,826 votes in Orumba North LGA; 9,136 votes in Aguata LGA; 8,803 votes in Njikoka LGA; 4,394 votes in Orumba South LGA; 9,746 in Anambra East LGA; 6911 votes in Anaocha LGA; 12,891 votes in Awka South LGA and 4,281 votes in Onitsha South LGA, earning Soludo of a total 60,998 votes across the eight LGAs where he is currently leading.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) extended the voting deadline from Saturday till Sunday due to technical glitches.
“Our technicians have already built an update to the device software to prevent further challenges. The update is currently being installed in the concerned BVAS, and we request voters, candidates and agents to be patient and allow our technical staff to solve the problem,” Nwachukwu Orji, the Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) said in a statement.
