Nigerian comedian and master of ceremonies, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, participated in the Babela Masoyinbo program but surprisingly went home with zero naira out of the available ₦1,000,000.
The program, hosted by Olalekan Fabilola, aims to promote Yoruba culture and teach the Yoruba language to Yoruba indigenes, especially those in the diaspora. On this programme, participants are not allowed to speak any language except from Yoruba.
It’s important to note that Ali Baba is not from a Yoruba-speaking background, hailing from Owerri in the South-South region of Nigeria. Despite this, he claimed to be proficient in Yoruba, but his participation in the program revealed otherwise.
Ali Baba’s participation was highly anticipated, with EAyoruba previously teasing his appearance on their Instagram handle in Yoruba, saying “Eelo lẹ rope Baba jẹ” meaning “How much do you think he won”.
However, in the recently posted video on EAyoruba’s YouTube channel, Ali Baba, who claimed to be proficient in Yoruba, made several mistakes, mixing English with Yoruba, and ultimately won nothing from the ₦1,000,000 prize money.
