Akpabio Declares Top Senatorial Seat Vacant, Calls for Fresh Election

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially declared the Edo Central Senatorial seat vacant following Senator Monday Okpebholo’s transition to the executive arm as Governor of Edo State.

Speaking during a Senate session on Wednesday, Akpabio directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize a by-election to ensure continued representation for the people of Edo Central in the Senate.

Okpebholo’s departure marks the end of his tenure in the 10th Senate, creating an opportunity for fresh leadership from the district. Akpabio emphasized the importance of promptly addressing the vacancy to uphold the legislative representation of Edo Central constituents.

Further updates on the timeline for the election and INEC’s preparations are expected.
