Again, Bode George blasts Tinubu, says ex-governor turned Lagos into private property

A former Vice Chairman of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George has lambasted the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying the latter should be in jail for his crimes.

In an interview with The PUNCH, the elder statesman alleged that Alpha Beta, the consulting firm in charge of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos, is a conduit pipe for corruption for the former Lagos governor.

He said both Tinubu and Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who served as the Commissioner of Justice during the former’s tenure, have questions to answer about the creation of the firm. Interestingly, the duo are both presidential aspirants on the platform of the APC.

“Was the Vice President (Yemi Osinbajo) not his Commissioner for Justice for eight years? When did they found the Alpha Beta? Let’s finish this hurdle; we will go back to it in election time. They must explain themselves. If you are coming into public office, we must X-ray you completely to trust you. I am sick and tired of all these people,” George said.

The PDP chieftain advised the APC against the idea of presenting the ex-governor as its presidential candidate, claiming that the 70-year-old politician doesn’t have the brains and commitment to lead Nigeria.

George further stated Tinubu who is considered the ‘Oracle of Lagos’ has turned the state into his private property and plundered all the resources meant for the collective good of Lagosians.

He added, “Go around Ikoyi, go around Lekki and you see the amount of government land he has to himself. Who owns the LCC and collects tolls? His son handles the billboards of Lagos. Do you know what that means? What the heck is this? He spent only eight years in office; book at the humongous amount of pension he arranged for himself. I spent over 20 years in the military, what is my pension a month?”

George, a pronounced political adversary of Tinubu, had on a number of occasions called out the former governor over his alleged mismanagement of Lagos. In January, the elder statesman described Tinubu’s presidential ambition as a “huge joke”.
