The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Wednesday, paid a visit to Afrobeat icon, Femi Kuti over the recent online squabble between his online supporters and the musician.
Femi, the son of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had come under fire after he allegedly described supporters of the LP flagbearer, also called Obidients, as “zombies” during a recent performance.
The celebrated saxophonist, however, said he was misquoted in the reports, and also raised alarm about threats on his life and family.
“I have seen insults directed to me and my family as well as the threat that they will burn the Shrine because they feel I said that Peter Obi’s supporters are zombies,” he had said in a video.
In what may be considered a move to resolve the controversy, Obi paid a reconciliation visit to Femi, as seen in a video clip which surfaced online. Charles Oputa, known better as Charly Boy, was one of those present at the meeting.
The former Anambra State governor also assured the singer that his campaign would be based on everyday issues affecting Nigerians, and not personality attacks.
“I saw what my own brother, Femi, tweeted and I said no! that is not what the future and the society we want to build.
“We will lead a campaign based on issues that affect Nigerians and that is what I encourage everybody to do,” he said.
