The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has elected Adewole Adebayo as its presidential flagbearer ahead of the 2023 general polls.
Adebayo, a lawyer and businessman, clinched the SDP ticket after defeating his only contender, Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi, a media entrepreneur and daughter of a former Federal Commissioner for Works and Housing, Lateef Olufemi Okunnu, SAN.
The presidential primary which lasted for eight hours was held on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adebayo polled 1, 546 votes, while Okunnu-Lamidi managed to score 83 votes, as 44 votes were declared invalid.
Moments before the election, a female presidential aspirant, Dorathy Nuhu Aken’Ova, withdrew from the race to back the candidacy of Adebayo.
Delivering his acceptance speech, the 54-year-old boasted that the SDP will put up a good fight against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also promised to run an all-inclusive government, and attract the best brains in various spheres of human endeavours to make Nigeria great again.
