In a devastating incident on Wednesday, two lives were lost and several individuals sustained severe injuries as a ‘MAC’ Truck with the license plate (T-1501 LA) collided with five vehicles on the bustling Eko Bridge in Lagos.
A spokesperson from LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the unfortunate occurrence, attributing the collision to the ‘MAC’ Truck’s excessive speed and brake failure. The collision involved the ‘MAC’ Truck crashing into five other private vehicles, including a commercial minibus (Korope).
The Director further revealed that LASTMA’s Akinde Olusola ‘Zebra’ from Zone 3 Iponri confirmed the accident, reporting two fatalities and five individuals with serious injuries.
Immediate action was taken to transport the injured and deceased to a nearby General Hospital using an ambulance from the Lasema Response Unit (LRU).
The vehicles involved in the accident were identified as a fully loaded truck (T-150 IL), a Lexus Jeep (LSP 795 EW), a Toyota Camry (AKD 606 HH), a Toyota (LND 217 GX), a mini-bus (FKJ 77 YG), and (LSR 952 HZ).
In light of this tragic event, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
He also took the opportunity to remind all motorists, especially truck drivers, of the importance of maintaining vehicles in optimal condition and adhering to safe driving practices within the state.
