Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party during the 2023 polls, Peter Obi has praised President Bola Tinubu for ordering the full implementation of the Oronsaye report.
In a statement shared on his X on Wednesday, Obi described the move as a welcome development, saying he would have implemented the report if he had been elected president.
He noted that implementing the report will make governance efficient, cost-effective, and productive.
“Being in opposition does not warrant blind and thoughtless criticism. Whenever the government takes the right decision, related or even better ideas to move the nation forward,” he wrote.
The politician highlighted the three major critical components of the Oronsaye report to include: “Drastically cutting the cost of governance; Eliminating the overlapping of responsibilities to ensure that responsibilities are appropriately domiciled, and increasing efficiency and effectiveness, which will increase productivity.”
Although he stated how beneficial this would be to Nigeria, Obi believes the government should take extreme caution during the implementation as it would “have a direct effect on civil servants”, and that “a very deep understanding of operations of the Federal bureaucracy will be required to effectively implement the report.”
