‘A triumph of truth over darkness’ — Embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho finally regains freedom

For supporters of embattled Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, it’s victory at last following his release from the custody of Benin authorities after several months of continued detention.

His spokesperson, Maxwell Adeleye confirmed the development in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday, describing the Yoruba separatist’s release as “a triumph of truth over darkness in Yoruba Land.”

The statement read in part, “Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin.

“The Activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba Leader and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran.”

BlackBox Nigeria had reported how Sunday Igboho — who came into limelight for his clamour for the liberation of the Yoruba people — had remained incarcerated in an undisclosed jail following his arrest in Cotonou, Benin Republic which marked the genesis of his ordeal in the hands of the Nigerian authorities.
