80-year-old ‘Mama Biafra’ freed from DSS custody

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Ukamaka Ejezie, a known supporter of the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It was learnt that the 80-year-old regained freedom from the custody of the secret police after over three months of detention.

Ejezie, popularly known as Mama Biafra, was arrested by the DSS on May 18, during the court appearance of the embattled IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a series of tweets on Sunday morning, the lead counsel for the separatist group, Ifeanyi Ejiofor confirmed the release of the octogenarian.

He wrote, “I am very delighted to inform you all that Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra) has regained her freedom. She is now out of DSS dungeon.

“Thank thee ChukwuOkike Abiama for this huge success. We are not relenting, every prisoner of conscience, including Our indefatigable Client, ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU will soon regain their freedom.

“We in the legal team, are doing everything legally permissible to make it happen, we are not resting on our oars at all, be assured.”
