The Governor of Gombe State, Mallam Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has said that Nigerians got a clearer message from the outcome of the People’s Democratic Party‘s (PDP) elective convention that was adjudged to be one of the most transparent intra party electoral process in Nigeria’s recent history.
Speaking exclusively to our correspondence who interviewed him immediately after he voted at the Eagle Square venue of the convention, the former Accountant General of the Federation stated that “the successful PDP’s elective convention is a clearer message to all Nigerians that the party is ready to take over the Federal government come 2019.”
According to him, “The transparent and controversy free convention is a clearer message to anyone who is still in doubt over the PDP’s readiness to rescue Nigerians from the clutches of the All Progressives Congress (APC) disappointing government.”
The convention election produced Uche Secondus as the Chairman had been alleged by the APC to have been marred by financial inducement from the Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State whom the ruling party accused of buying majority of the delegates and their governors with about N15billion to influence the election of Secondus who hails from the oil-rich state.
However, Governor Dankwambo in his remarks have denied the possibility of such occurrence as he described the PDP’s convention as the best intra party electoral process ever held in Nigeria’s history. For him, the ruling APC should focus on why they have failed to convene any convention since winning the 2015 General Elections.
Already reports have emerged over a brewing crisis in the APC over a comment made by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the Governors have no role to play in the nomination process of who emerges as presidential candidate of the party ahead if 2019.
The statement according to various news media have drawn sharp criticism from Governor Rochas Okorocha the APC Governors Forum Chairman as he described the statement as an insult to the Governors.
Meanwhile, President Buhari had earlier responded to the mammoth crowd that greeted his arrival to Kano last week on his two day state visit to the ancient city as he described it as a clear message to the opposition on his popularity amongst the people. However Governor Ayo Fayose had described the massive turnout the President received in Kano as a sign of joblessness in the country, which is a clear indication that the APC had failed on its promise to create jobs for the Youth.
