4 months after becoming SAN, Nigeria’s ‘oldest lawyer’ dies at 91

Professor Ajagbe Toriola Oyewo, a lecturer at Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State has died. He was aged 91.

Oyewo, who was the oldest lawyer to earn the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title, breathed his last on Tuesday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Report has it that the Erunmu-born Professor of Law was receiving treatment at the hospital after he was involved in a car accident in Osun State.

In October 2021, he was among the 72 legal practitioners elevated to the rank of SAN after he clocked 90 years.

The legal practitioner was also a traditional Chief in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He was once an elected member representing Lagelu South Federal Constituency, Oyo State.

Oyewo was an expert in local government law and administration, a distinguished scholar, a teacher of teachers, and a socialite.
