Barcelona have reached a final agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski in deal worth €50 million.
The 33-year-old officially joins the LaLiga giants, where he would spend the next four seasons with his buyout clause set at €500 million.
“The final agreement comes three days after the Club announced an agreement in principle for the Polish striker, which came while the team was flying to the United States,” Barcelona said in a statement on their website.
“Lewandowski arrived in Miami on Sunday and met his new teammates. The new Barça striker also passed his medical.”
The prolific striker spent eight memorable years with Bayern Munich. Lewandowski scored 344 times in 374 games for the club and is their second-highest scorer of all time behind Gerd Muller.
The two-time winner of the FIFA Best Award is, however, ready for a fresh start at Camp Nou.
“I have always wanted to play in a great La Liga club and this is a great opportunity for me. It is also a challenge for my private life,” he was quoted as saying.
“I am a player who always wants to win. We have great players, with a lot of quality, in the squad. I am excited about what we can all achieve together.”
Lewandowski is Barcelona’s fourth signing of the summer after Brazil winger Raphinha joined the club from Leeds United in a deal worth up to £55m, while Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie and Denmark defender Andreas Christensen arrived on free transfers after their respective contracts with AC Milan and Chelsea came to an end.
