A 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, in Ondo State, identified as Olona Joseph Oluwapelumi, has reportedly killed himself by hanging off a rope in his room.
According to The Tribune, Joseph, a student in the department of industrial design, was found dead by his friends on Saturday after his door was broken.
Joseph was reportedly said to have killed himself over depression and financial constraints as he recently solicited financial aid on his Facebook page and shared suicidal thoughts.
His death was confirmed by the President of the Student Union, Jesunifemi Asoore, who expressed his condolence to Joseph’s family and friends.
The Ondo’s State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami also revealed that the remains of the deceased have been transferred to the morgue with further investigations revealing that it was a case of suicide.
