A health worker, attached to Girei Primary Health Centre, Florence Vandi, 22, has committed suicide by drinking poison, Otapiyapiya, to protest her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface’s death.
According to DailyTrust, the tragic incident of Vandi, who died at Viniklang community in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa, was confirmed by the state police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
SP Nguroje explained that the deceased took her life just few hours after the death of her boyfriend.
Boniface was said to have died after a brief illness while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Nguroje said, “The deceased, an indigene of Michika LGA in the state, ended her life by consuming the local substance while protesting the death of her boyfriend.
“She took the unfortunate decision a few hours after the death of her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface, who died after a brief illness while receiving treatment at the hospital.”
The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babalola, has also expressed sadness over the incident while advising members of the public to avoid taking the law into their hands and report any suspicious movement around their neighbourhood.
