18-year-old Hijabi model wins 2021 Miss Nigeria

Shatu Garko from Kano State has been crowned the 44th Miss Nigeria, becoming the first Hijabi model to win the beauty pageant.

The 18-year-old beat 18 other contestants to emerge winner at the event held on Friday night at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Nicole Ikot emerged as the first runner up, followed by Kasarachi Okoro who took the second runner up place.

The new Miss Nigeria succeeded Etsanyi Tukura, who hailed from Taraba State, 43rd winner of the 2019 Miss Nigeria contest.

“My whole life I have always wanted to be a Miss Nigeria. I’d like to thank Miss Nigeria and its sponsors. I would also like to thank my mum for supporting and loving me,” Garko said after being crowned Miss Nigeria.

The beauty queen went home with the cash prize of N10 million, a luxury apartment, a car and ambassadorship.
