Today marks the 80th birthday of the highly esteemed General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

Daddy G.O., as he is fondly called, is one of the most revered and influential pastors in the world, and he has been influencing lives positively for the past decades.

As thousands of birthday wishes continue to flood social media in honour of the man of God, Blackbox Nigeria has compiled ten facts you should know about Pastor Adeboye.

1. He was born on the 2nd of March, 1942, into a humble family in Ile Ife, Osun State.

2. Unknown to some people, Pastor Adeboye attended Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha Osun State for his secondary school education.

3. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in Nsukka but completed his first degree at the University of Ife, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1967.

4. In 1967, he married his lovely wife, Foluke Adenike. Their union is blessed with four children.

5. He bagged a Master’s degree in Hydrodynamics from University of Lagos in 1969. Later in 1975, he obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos.

6. He joined the Redemed Christian Church of God in 1973 and served as an interpreter before he was ordained a pastor in the church by Pa Josiah Akindayomi in 1975.

7. In January 1981, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye became the General Overseer of RCCG. Under his watch, the church has grown in numbers and established branches in over 198 nations and territories of the world.

8. Adeboye came to international limelight on December 18, 1998 when he hosted the first open air Holy Ghost Congress in Lekki, Lagos. CNN and BBC reported that the gathering was attended by over 7 million people, and considered one of the largest Church gatherings ever.

9. In early 2008, the renowned clergyman was named by Newsweek as the one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

10. Pastor Adeboye was struck with a piece of bad news on May 4, 2021 after he lost his son Pastor Dare Adeboye, who died at the age of 42.
