Like Aluu, Like Ikorodu… When Savagery Takes Over Common Sense by Kayode Badmus

On October 15, 2012, Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa and Tekena Elkanah all students of UNIPORT were lynched in a community not far from their school.

They were beaten, bones broken and eventually set ablaze in cold blood. Their offence was an allegation that was unfounded and later discovered to be false but by then, those young quarternion were long gone. They were murdered in their prime by a bunch of self-rightious community men and unfortunately women. Yes, many have been arrested and charged to court but will it ever bring back those young men?

This community is called Aluu and the quartet are the unfortunate fellows now known as the infamous Aluu 4.

In modern day Nigeria, in Africa’s commercial capital, in the town which has produced many illustrious people and noblemen, in Ikorodu, Aluu is back to LIFE.

Those who took to Facebook five years ago to condemn Aluu community are today more animalistic than the Aluu folks. We all called them animals in Human skin, some even called them blood suckers but we in our own right now support extrajudicial killings. Last I checked, this was a crime even in Nigeria.

It is unfortunate that the evil badoo cult has ravaged the town, it is even more unfortunate that the security apparatuses appear weak and helpless in putting an end to this menace but never will jungle justice be the solution. NEVER!

Just yesterday, I read about a wedding MC who was also burnt to death in Odugunyan, Ikorodu. The marauders claim they found engine oil and stones in the vehicle they found him and two others and this was enough for the backyard magistrates to pronounce them guilty and sentenced to death. The killers claim badoo members use stone to hit their victims to kill them, that they rub on engine oil to prevent being nabbed as their body would be slippery if accosted. So the engine oil and stone allegedly found on the trio was enough to pronounce them guilty. So my people celebrated, another badoo team wiped out…so we thought until news came that one of the victims was a commedian and MC. Now Chinedu Paul’s people have disclosed that his car broke down that night while returning from IK Osakioduwa’s Show. He was said to be returning to the spot with a mechanic and a Friend when they were accosted and labeled badoo gang members. The rest is history.

But now lets do some personal checks together, the trio were killed in the wee hours of Sunday, July 2nd. A visit to his Facebook wall showed that he posted pictures of himself and IK at 9:42PM of Satuday, July 1st. These are facts a proper court would have checked to prove guilt or innocence. Why didnt the mob request to follow them home to make confirmations about whatever claim they must have made. Instead the community took laws into their own hands.

Only a few days earlier, Chinedu Paul (MC Think Twice) had also shared some gruesome images of some badoo victims on Facebook while advising viewer discretion, little did he know he would be a reverse victim in days to come.

This is 2017 the only solution we can find to this kind of menace is to employ equally brutal force and archaic solutions? Nothing good can come out extrajudicial killings.

Unfortunately the Police are no better than the marauders, they have started raiding every where during the day arresting hundreds of young men for the flimsiest of excuses. Carrying dreadlocks in Ikorodu at the moment can either get you arrested by the Police or even lynched by a mob. The police have even issued a statement to arrest anybody without valid ID henceforth. Atleast we know there is a chance of a trial when somebody is arrested by enforcement agents.

Now I am so lost in this whole Anti-social juncket. Lets all say no to Jungle Justice, we must all desist from being modern day ‘bando de linchadores’.

Let the law take its full cause.
