Zamfara shuts schools, imposes curfew as bandits kidnap over 70 students

Five days after the abducted students of the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura regained their freedom, over 70 students on Wednesday were abducted in the Kaya community of Maradun local council of Zamfara State.

The total number of students abducted is yet to be confirmed by the school authority as there were conflicting figures from different sources.

However, out of over 300 students in the school, it is estimated that those missing could be over hundred.

It was gathered that some students who escaped into nearby bushes are finding their way back to the school.

The state police command has concluded that 73 students are missing and security operatives have been deployed by the police to the area for a search and rescue operation.

 

Meanwhile, this development has prompted the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, to shut both primary and secondary Schools in the state with immediate effect.

A dusk to dawn curfew has also been imposed through out the local councils in the state.

The directive was conveyed by the commissioner of police, Ayuba Elkana, while he was addressing journalists on the new security measures in the state.
