Afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has come under fire following his emotional post blaming Nigeria’s failed healthcare system for the death of his brother.

While many sympathized with the singer’s pain, others were quick to point out the controversial past of his late father, Justice Ikubor, who was a former General Manager of Edo State–owned publishing outfit, Edo Line, allegedly involved in mismanaging the agency before his death.

In his viral post on X, Rema alleged that his brother was operated on under candlelight and died due to poor surgical procedures; a result of Nigeria’s underfunded healthcare system.

“The money to provide good healthcare system is in an old man’s foreign account and they keep borrowing using our pain as their format,” he wrote.

However, critics online questioned Rema’s moral ground to blame the government, suggesting that his father also contributed to the decay of public institutions.

“You are crying over the same system your father helped destroy,” one user posted.

The backlash has reignited concerns about the need for accountability as things are bound to turn around in future.
