Yaounde draw delays Super Eagles World Cup qualification
Nigeria was yesterday held to a 1-1 draw by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the return leg of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria stuck in the 30th minute via a Moses Simon goal but the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium will not see a victory for the Eagles as the host equalised just 15 minutes to the end of the match via a penalty by FC Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar.
Super Eagles now too Group B with 10 points with their closest rival, Zambia 4 points behind.
An excited Super Eagles coach, GERNOT ROHR also expressed his satisfaction over the performance of his boys saying Cameroon posed a tougher challenge than they did in Uyo.
“It was a different team of Cameroon They had three fresh players. We had the same team,” he said after the game.
“And physically in the second half, we had problems, but we are very happy about this point because our goal was to have four points against Cameroon.
“We did very well in the first game and today was a game we didn’t want to make a spectacle, We just wanted to get the points.
“If they didn’t have that penalty we’d have got all three points. We are very satisfied with the result.”
Nigeria’s next match comes up on October 7 in Uyo where they will be playing against Zambia.
