Xenophobia: Police Stops Reprisal Attack On Shoprite In Lagos

For the quick intervention of the Nigeria Police in Lagos, the Shoprite supermarket on Adeniran-Ogunsanya Road, Surulere, Lagos would have gone up in flames with its attendant loss of millions of naira.

According to an eyewitness who identifies himself as Amaju, the police decided to put the interest of other occupants of the shopping mall into consideration in stopping the attempted arson.

The anger to burn the Shoprite property owned by South African investors was in reprisal for the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa which has dominated national discuss since yesterday.

As at the time of putting up this report, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that a special Envoy meets with the President of South Africa, Ramaphosa to discuss how to handle the situation.
