The much publicized $64.95 (N23,440) customised jersey produced by multinational clothing giant, Nike, for Nigerian music sensation, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, launched with a bang.

The Nike exclusive shirt, emblazoned with the logo of Wizkid’s personal label, Starboy, was sold out as at the time it was made available on Nike’s official website today, BlackBox Nigeria can confirm.

The impressive acceptance of the jersey believed to be celebrating Wizkid’s humble beginning in Surulere and the Nigerian spirit reaffirms his growing international image.

The jersey with a centrally placed Nike Swoosh, complementing his iconic Starboy graphic below, has the colours of Nigeria proudly embellishing the sleeves and the name of Wizkid’s starting place and hometown, Surulere, shining on the reverse.

According Nike, “to label Wizkid simply as a Nigerian pop-star contradicts his global influence. After all, the singer/songwriter has topped charts in 15 countries, successfully bringing the new generation of Afropop global and spreading his hometown pride far and wide.”

Explaining the general look of the jersey, Nike wrote on its website,”The jersey’s green and white trimmings reflect the Nigerian flag, as does a Naija graphic on the sleeve, while the front features a centrally-placed Nike Swoosh and is highlighted by the iconic Starboy graphic across the chest.

“The overall design is a fitting celebration of both personal and collective talent and ingenuity, and one that defines Wizkid’s dizzying accomplishments and Nigeria’s growing cultural footprint.”
