Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has reignited the debate over Nigeria’s biggest music act after boldly declaring himself “Number One.”
The singer made the statement in an Instagram story on Friday, posting a photo of a whiteboard bearing the inscription: “Type sht. Big Wiz. Number 1.”
The post comes amid renewed social media conversations comparing Wizkid with fellow Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Burna Boy, often referred to by fans as the country’s “Top 3.”
While Davido is popularly known as “001” and Burna Boy as “002”, Wizkid’s message is being interpreted by fans as a direct assertion of his dominance in the ongoing ranking debate.
The post immediately went viral, drawing thousands of reactions across X and Instagram.
Supporters of the three artists have since traded arguments over who truly holds the crown in Nigeria’s globally acclaimed Afrobeats scene.
Wizkid, who has been relatively quiet on social media in recent months, recently returned to public attention after being announced as one of the headliners for Afro Nation Portugal 2026, alongside Asake and South African sensation Tyla.
For many observers, his latest post is more than just playful banter, it’s a reminder that Big Wiz still sees himself as the undisputed king of Afrobeats.
