Grammy Winner, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history by becoming the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams on Spotify across all credits.

The remarkable milestone solidifies Wizkid’s position as one of the most influential and globally recognized African musicians of all time.

The singer’s most streamed track on the platform remains his chart-topping collaboration with Drake and Kyla, One Dance, which has amassed over 3.7 billion streams.

The 2016 hit is not only among Spotify’s top 10 most streamed songs of all time, but also holds the Guinness World Record as the first single to hit 1 billion streams on the platform.

Wizkid’s most streamed lead single is his 2020 global smash Essence, featuring Nigerian songstress Tems.

The record-breaking Afrobeats anthem has garnered over 303 million streams, becoming a defining soundtrack of the genre’s rise on the global stage.

This new achievement underscores Wizkid’s continued influence in bridging African music with global audiences. It also reaffirms Afrobeats’ surging popularity worldwide, with Wizkid often praised for pioneering the movement.

While Wizkid celebrates his 9-billion-stream milestone, American pop star Taylor Swift remains Spotify’s most streamed artist with over 1.5 billion streams.
