The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has unveiled a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, marking a high-profile media initiative amid early political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
The station was commissioned on Saturday at the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ office, where it will operate alongside a situation room and party coordination facilities.
Wike said the station is designed to carry political messages across the state’s 6,866 political units, signalling a grassroots communication push in the South-South region.
In a video shared by his media aide, Wike was seen inspecting the studios and interacting with staff members during the launch.
The minister described the development as part of broader support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election ambitions, emphasising the readiness of his supporters in Rivers to mobilise without reliance on the incumbent state governor.
“This will take messages from all over Rivers State,” Wike said, underscoring the focus on political engagement ahead of the next polls.
The launch has sparked debate nationally, with some commentators praising the move as a strategic tool for voter outreach, while others view it as a sign of intensifying political competition in the region.
