The wife of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has passed away, family sources have confirmed.
Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega died on Sunday, April 5, 2026, with details of the circumstances surrounding her death yet to be publicly disclosed.
In a statement announcing her passing, the family said funeral prayers (Janazah) would be held the same day at the National Mosque in Abuja shortly after the Zuhr prayer.
The late Hadiza Jega was widely known for her contributions to community development and support for educational initiatives, particularly in northern Nigeria.
Tributes have begun to pour in from associates and institutions, including Bayero University, Kano, where her husband once served as Vice-Chancellor, with prayers offered for her soul and condolences extended to the bereaved family.
Attahiru Jega, a respected academic and public servant, led Nigeria’s electoral body between 2010 and 2015 and currently holds advisory roles in government.
The death marks a moment of mourning for the Jega family and associates, with sympathisers calling for prayers and support during this period.
