A 400 level student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Salaudeen Waliu, who reportedly beat up a lecturer, Mrs Zakariyyah after an altercation on his academics has opened up on what led to the unfortunate incident.
Salaudeen Waliu, popularly known as Captain Walz, while speaking to University Campus Journalists, UCJ-Ilorin, claimed that “months before the last Thursday incident, he was arrested and locked up for two months, thereby warranting his inability to attend SIWES duties.”
He claimed to have gone to the female lecturer’s office to beg her to help wave the mandatory SIWES course which he missed due to unforeseen circumstances, but was always met with negative responses.
According to him, he had gone to Lagos to meet a friend for the first time but was accused of being a thief and locked up by the police which led to his detention for two months.
Explaining his ordeal, Walz told the UCJ team that he went to Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos, to meet a friend for the first time.
“I urinated near a car parked by drainage and challenged by one of the workers there. I was then accused of being a thief and was not allowed to explain myself before a mob descended.
“I was severely beaten and handed over to the police which led to my detention for two months,” he said.
The final year student noted that he went on to narrate his ugly Lagos incident to Mrs Zakariyau, but she refused to give some him grace, adding that he had no option but to join the next set which would result in an extra year.
He said on the fateful Thursday when he entered the lecturer’s office, she ordered him out of her office.
”I got angry, I don’t know what came over me, I started arguing and she told me to leave her office, I told her if I don’t leave, what is she going to do?
“She then threw a mug at me which injured me and I started beating her,” he added.
Reacting to the development, the Student Union Government said it is fully aware of the ugly incident.
The body, however, noted that there have been no chance to meet the student due to his to transfer to F-division police unit, but Waliu has been returned back to the University security unit.
“The guy must have acted under the influence of drug, which the administration totally condemns such,” Adeleye Isaac, the General secretary of the Union explained.
Isaac also asked that the student populace stayed away from drugs.
Meanwhile, the affected lecturer, Mrs Zakariyau has been discharged from the University hospital after receiving treatment.
