As Lagos edges closer to the 2027 general elections and party primaries, public interest is intensifying over who will emerge as the next governor of Nigeria’s commercial powerhouse. With rising political awareness among young people and increasing calls for visionary leadership, the race for Lagos’ top seat is already attracting attention across the state.
In a video obtained by BlackBox Nigeria, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Wing, led by Dr Muritala Seriki, unveiled a compilation of potential contenders for the party’s governorship ticket. According to the group, the list was curated from a closed poll conducted to identify possible aspirants ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
The widely circulated video highlights several influential figures from politics, business, and public service. Among those featured are Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Senator Tokunbo Abiru of Lagos East; former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and House of Representatives member, Babajimi Benson.
But beyond these familiar names, the youth poll also spotlighted a broader range of personalities quietly gaining traction within party circles. Individuals such as Mr Abayomi Oluyomi, Barr. Ajenifuja Yinka, and Mr Anofiu Elegushi were mentioned for their administrative experience, while Miss Abisola Olusanya and Mrs Bimbola Saluu Hundeyin were noted for their technocratic contributions in public service.
In the same breath, figures like Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, Dr Tunji Alausa, and H.E. Kadiri Obafemi appeared on the list as part of the party’s wider mix of legislators, diplomats, and policy influencers seen as capable of shaping the next phase of Lagos governance.
Also included in the compilation are Mojisola Meranda, Rep. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, AbdulAzeez “Jandor” Adeniran, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab, Mrs Toke Benson, and other emerging political actors described by the youth leadership as “prospective leaders capable of sustaining Lagos’ progressive development.”
Though the APC Youth Wing did not frame the list as an endorsement, the publication has stirred significant political discussions within the party and among Lagos residents. Many observers interpret the video as an early indication of shifting alliances and internal positioning ahead of the 2027 race.
Dr Seriki emphasised that the featured individuals represent “a generation of leaders who have demonstrated commitment to governance, innovation, and the progressive ideals of the party.”
While the APC has yet to issue an official statement on the video, analysts say the inclusion of high-profile names with proven youth followership signals the growing influence of youth engagement in shaping Lagos’ political succession narrative.
As anticipation builds, Lagosians continue to watch closely, eager to see which contender will ultimately emerge to steer the affairs of one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.
