President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new Service Chiefs, marking a major reshuffle in Nigeria’s military leadership aimed at strengthening national security.

This development is coming after the alleged failed coup targeted at the president, his vice and some other top officials which led to the arrest of 16 military personnel by the defence intelligence.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Also appointed are Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff.

However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other former Service Chiefs for their service and leadership.

He charged the new military heads to uphold the professionalism, vigilance, and unity that the Nigerian Armed Forces are known for.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement concluded.
