  • ‘Security is everyone’s business’ -Lana Promise declares as LNSA hosts one day community parley

Lagosians have been told that for a better secured community, everybody must get involved by ensuring that they all pay attention to their neighbours and neighbourhood at large. This was the submission of youthful Lana Promise who was the guest lecturer at the One Day Security Stakeholders Seminar held by the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency.

The seminar themed “Neighbourhood Safety as a Strategy for Effective Crime Control in Lagos State” held at the Ikorodu TownHall with traditional rulers, political office holders, community heads, workers union and many more strata of the community height represented.

 

 

In his presentation, Lana Promise posited that crime control must be niched in the bud especially as regards to cultism which has now become one of the biggest menace in Lagos.

 

 

“Years back, cultism was only witnessed in tertiary institutions but today, primary and secondary schools have become targets as pupils are being initiated into cult groups. There is need for everyone to come on board to ensure that we battle this menace.”

 

He spoke further,

 

“I live in Agege and one of the menace we face everyday is the menace of the Awawa Confraternity. This group is led by teenagers who go about dispossessing people of their property and even beating them up. It is quite funny that most of their victims are even way older than them while some can even give birth to these hooligans who go about in large groups. Their signature is the visible tattoos that they all have.”

 

 

According to Lana Promise, cultism can be curbed if the community folks especially parents corporate with security agencies especially the LNSA which is the closest to the people in reporting these activities when they observe.

In her earlier remark, the Divisional representative of Ikorodu on the board of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Princess Kofoworola Adegboye have revealed to all that since the agency was founded two years ago, it has helped to reduce crime in Ikorodu.

 

Among the achievements of the outfit accordingly was the success it achieved in putting an end to the Baddoo crisis which rocked Ikorodu years ago.

 

Among the dignitaries present at the event were the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Mudashiru Bakare Agoro; the Chairman of the LNSA, DIG Israel Ajao who was represented by the Chief Babatunde Aboyade, a board member representing Ikeja.

 

Others in attendance included Hon. Bakare Agoro, Imota LCDA Chairman; Barr. Ade Ayeni, SLG Igbogbo Bayeiku LCDA; Mrs Ronke Ogabi, board member representing Badagry; Ishola Laguda, board member representing Lagos Island; the Balogun of Igbogbo; Lisa of Ijede amongst others.
