The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has provided a statement regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the Idioro area of Mushin, Lagos State, where two innocent lives were lost due to stray bullets fired by NDLEA operatives during a drug raid.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Thursday, the agency’s operatives were conducting a raid in an effort to apprehend drug barons involved in drug shipments from Ghana when they came under attack.

As a result, he said the officers were forced to resort to self-defence to protect themselves from the assailants.

However, he said the agency arrested the suspects, one Saheed Solola and Suleiman Shehu, with drug shipments and vehicles.

He said, “our men on Wednesday night went to Mushin to arrest the baron behind shipments of drugs that have been coming from Ghana.

“After the arrest of some of the wanted suspects and recovery of drugs and their vehicles, our men came under attack from their boys, who had locked all the exit gates in the community, and our officers had to defend themselves to come out of the area alive.”

Regrettably, this is the second incident within the month where NDLEA operatives have been involved in fatal shootings.

Just a few weeks prior to this event, a tragic incident occurred in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, where a two-year-old boy named Ivan Omhonrina lost his life due to a stray bullet during an NDLEA operation in the area.
