Renowned Fuji music icon and cultural promoter, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, has officially declared his interest in the vacant royal stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a formal letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, K1 de Ultimate, as he is popularly known, expressed his intention to be considered for the exalted throne following the passing of the former Awujale.

Otunba Wasiu Ayinde who is a bonafide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, traced his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage of the Agunsebi Quarters in Ijebu-Ode.

He emphasized that his lineage and roots qualify him to contest for the throne in accordance with Ijebu customary law and Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

“I have devoted over five decades to the promotion of Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian culture through music and cultural enterprise,” he wrote.

Highlighting his traditional and national recognitions, K1 noted his installation as Mayegun of Yorubaland in 2020, the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 2022, and his recent conferment as Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afiidipotemole of Akile Ijebu by the late Awujale in 2023.

The stool of the Awujale, one of the most respected royal thrones in Yorubaland, became vacant following the demise of Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The succession process is being guided by established traditional norms and Ogun State law.
