The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has updated the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results following the discovery of technical issues that affected the initial release.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of National Office (Nigeria), announced the revision on Friday, stating that 62.96% of candidates who took the exam now have at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

This marks a significant improvement from the initial figure of 38%.

Earlier this week, WAEC had declared the 2025 results as the worst in over a decade, sparking concern among students and parents.

The previous release had placed the performance below the 2014 record, when only 29.27% of candidates obtained the required credits.

However, the Council explained that a post-result review revealed technical bugs caused by a new paper serialization technology introduced to fight examination malpractice.

The innovation was implemented in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Biology, and Economics.

In a follow-up statement, Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, said access to the results via the online portal has been temporarily suspended while corrections are being made.

“As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal,” she said.

WAEC has promised that the technical issues will be fully resolved within 24 hours and advised all candidates who previously checked their results to do so again.

The Council extended its apologies to all affected candidates and emphasized its commitment to fairness, transparency, and credibility in the examination process.
