The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed regret for the delays encountered in administering the English Language Paper 2 of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The examination, which took place on Wednesday evening, was affected by logistical hurdles, security concerns, and socio-cultural factors.

WAEC acknowledged the critical importance of conducting examinations on time and apologized for any inconveniences caused to candidates, their schools, and families.

Despite successfully securing the examination papers, the council admitted that its focus on preventing paper leakage inadvertently affected the timeliness and smooth execution of the exam process.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused,” WAEC stated.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in examination conduct and pledged to continue promoting academic excellence in the future.

WAEC’s apology comes as a relief to candidates who were affected by the delays.

The council’s commitment to security and integrity in examination conduct is commendable, and it is hoped that measures will be put in place to prevent such delays in the future.
