Voting has already commenced in most polling units across wards in Lagos East senatorial district and Kosofe Constituency II, as constituents elect a new senator and member, Lagos State House of Assembly respectively.
Reports reaching BlackBox Nigeria from our correspondents in Shomolu, Epe, Ikorodu and Epe, however, indicate that voter turnout is very low. The reasons for this development are largely unknown.
Though, some residents who spoke to BlackBox Nigeria said a number of the constituents are displeased with the current realities of the country. Consequently, they’re venting their anger by boycotting the elections.
Also, there is a huge presence of armed police personnel and other security agents at the polling units monitored by our correspondents.
Recall the Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Command had announced a restriction of movement between 6am and 6pm on the election day. The affected Local Government Areas are Epe, Ibeju Lekki, Kosofe, Somolu and Ikorodu.
Candidates from 12 political parties will be contesting in the Lagos East Senatorial bye-election, while eight candidates will be contesting the Kosofe Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly bye-election.
