By In a bid to stern the declining performance of the State of Osun students in public examinations, VolunteerCorps, a non-governmental organisation, is organising free tutoring classes for students across the state to adequately prepare them for their exams.

Presently, the classes spread across 41 centres in the state and has over 3,750 students and 275 teachers enrolled in the programme, currently holds on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The initiative was conceived to advocate Youth Development and reach out to young professionals, who freely offer their time and resources to teach and provide mentorship to secondary school students towards their final certificate examinations such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examinations Council (NECO), and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Apart from the free tuition, the students are provided with free English and Mathematics textbooks, alongside their teachers, by the organisation.
Speaking on the purpose of the programme,Executive Director of the Project Mrs. Ibiyemi Faturoti, said the coaching classes was to effectively complement the efforts of their schools to ensure optimal academic performance of the students and reverse the dismal trend associated with the state in education.
“We at VolunteerCorps share with the Government and people of the State of Osun concern over the poor results. We call on people of goodwill everywhere with the skill and availability to join us assists the State Government and the educational system”, she said.
Mr. Faturoti added that VolunteerCorps hopes the students would be greatly impacted by the lessons and advice bequeathed to them by the facilitators and would put everything learnt into good use.
Volunteer Corps, a non-governmental organisation, was founded in 1992 by Sir Demola Aladekomo as a special purpose vehicle for reaching out to young Nigerians early in life. The NGO has become a rallying point for young upwardly mobile professionals who donate time and resources to teach and provide guidance to secondary school students on weekends.
