A wave of reactions has trailed viral social media posts claiming that Italian luxury fashion house Gucci had introduced a line of high-end baby diapers which allegedly cost $490, with users across platforms expressing shock, amusement and criticism over the alleged product.

The claim, driven by widely shared images online, quickly ignited conversations, with many questioning the limits of luxury branding while others dismissed it as unrealistic.

Many netizens ridiculed the claim, describing it as an example of how far luxury branding could be stretched.

“Luxury has officially gone too far if this is real,” one user wrote, while others joked about “designer babies” and questioned who the target market would be.

Others, however, used the moment to criticise what they described as excessive consumerism, arguing that such a product if real would reflect widening inequality and misplaced priorities.

“People can’t afford basic needs, and we’re talking about luxury diapers?” another user commented.

Despite the virality, checks by BlackBox Nigeria clarified that the product is not real, with no official announcement from Gucci confirming the existence of such an item.

The images are widely believed to be digitally altered or generated content created to provoke reactions online.

Still, the debate has continued to trend, highlighting how easily viral content especially involving global luxury brands can capture public attention and trigger conversations around wealth, branding and social values.
