Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has sparked speculation of an early retirement from international football following an Instagram post shortly after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Russia in a friendly played in Moscow on Friday night.
Boniface, who started the match but failed to register a goal, wrote: “Proud to play for my country and a dream also
“Really enjoyed every moment good and the bad. Thank you all. I don hang boot.”
This revelation has left fans stunned and questioning whether the 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen forward has indeed called time on his Super Eagles career.
Boniface’s international career has been under growing scrutiny due to his failure to find the net in recent appearances, including Friday’s encounter where he was substituted for Tolu Arokodare, who went on to score the equaliser in the 71st minute.
His post did not offer further clarification, and neither the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) nor Boniface’s representatives have officially confirmed the retirement.
