Vice Principal of Complete Child Development Centre in Akure,Mr. Rotifa, was hospitalized after being attacked by four men hired by a student’s mother. The assault followed his confiscation of the student’s phone during an ongoing examination.
The next day, the student’s mother, identified as Mrs. Dorcas Asije, reportedly stormed the school with four accomplices.
According to witnesses, the group demanded the return of the phone and threatened Mr. Rotifa, insisting he should allow the student to use it during the examination. When the Vice Principal refused, the group physically attacked him, leaving him severely injured.
Mr. Rotifa is now in critical condition at a hospital in Akure, battling injuries sustained during the assault.
In response to public outrage, the Ondo State Police Command swiftly intervened. In a statement issued by the Command on June 2, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Asije and the four men involved in the attack.
“Following the assault on the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development Centre Akure, the Ondo State Police Command has arrested Mrs. Dorcas Asije and four other accomplices,” the statement read.
“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) led a tactical team to ensure their swift arrest. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
The Ondo State Government also condemned the act, describing it as both “barbaric” and a threat to the education system. Officials reiterated that violence against educators will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The names of the four male suspects have not been disclosed, but police say all five individuals remain in custody and will face legal consequences.
Mr. Rotifa’s condition is being closely monitored, while education stakeholders across the state have called for better protection and respect for teachers and school administrators.
