Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Okechukwu Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has been installed as the Paramount Ruler of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State.
The veteran entertainer has earned a spot for himself in the comedy industry and thus was conferred with the title of “Eze,” marking a new chapter in his life as a traditional leader.
The news, which broke on social media, was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans, colleagues, and dignitaries across the country.
Okey Bakassi’s ascension to the throne has been hailed as a proud moment for the people of Umuihuocha, who view his wealth of experience and leadership skills as assets that will greatly benefit the community.
“Onye Eze birikwe o!” (Long Live the King) were chanted by the supporters as they jubilantly celebrate the comedian’s transition from the spotlight of the entertainment stage to the revered seat of traditional authority.
With this honor, Okey Bakassi joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities who have embraced traditional leadership roles.
