By The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba moments ago affirmed to the Senate Committee that Senator Dino Melaye indeed graduated from the varsity, but the institution’s Exams Dept insists the legislator did not meet requirements for awarding of Degree.
Prof Garba made this disclosure while appearing before the panel at the hearing on Senator Melaye’s certificate scandal.
The Committee on Ethics and Privileges were prompted to carry out a probe on the certificate of Melaye following online reports about a supposed forgery. Senator Ali Ndume had petitioned the Senate to carry out investigation to ascertain the real state of the matter.
In response to the Vice Chancellor’s confirmation to the Senate about Melaye’s certificate, the Exams Officers at the institution stated that the lawmaker did not fulfill a major course graduation requirment Geography 307 (Long Field Trip).
According to Sahara Reporters, the lawmaker connived with his then HOD, Professor D O Ogbonna who awarded him a fake grade so he could be awarded with the B A Geography. Prof Ogbonna is now late, he died while teaching at Kogi State University.
