An Oyo State High Court has granted bail in the sum of N10 million to Naomi Silekunola, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife, alongside media personality and CEO of Ibadan based radio station, Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, in connection with the deadly Ibadan stampede.

Justice K.B. Olawoyin delivered the ruling on Monday, outlining five conditions for the bail, including the payment of N10 million and the provision of two sureties who must submit landed documents within the court’s jurisdiction.

The charges stem from an unfortunate stampede at an event organized by Naomi Silekunola on December 18, 2024, which tragically resulted in the deaths of 35 children and left six others hospitalized.

On January 10, 2025, the Oyo State government filed an eight-count charge against Silekunola, Hamzat, and Fasasi, including accusations of murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence.

The trio were arrested and subsequently charged for their alleged roles in the fatal incident.

The judge directed that the defendants submit their international passports to the court and not grant any press interviews in print or on social media during the trial.

The case has been adjourned for further hearing until 27 January 2025.
