UPDATE: Kaduna Announces Release of 172 Students Abducted By Bandits

The Kaduna State Government, on Friday, said 172 students have been rescued after gunmen attacked the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Igabi LGA of the State.

Recall BlackBox Nigeria reported that the school was invaded by gunmen in the earlier hours of Friday. According to the BBC, a witness said half of the female students were taken but not a single male was abducted.

In a statement, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said eight staff were also freed from the bandits.

He, however, added that 30 students are still unaccounted for.

“The troops successfully rescued 180 citizens; 42 female students, eight staff and 130 male students. However, about 30 students, a mix of males and females, are yet to be accounted for,” Aruwan said.
