A new development has emerged in the investigation into the murder of a Lagos State University (LASU) student, supposedly linked to a cele pastor identified as Superintendent Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh.
The police have arrested another suspect, reportedly a member of the Aiye fraternity, who is a friend of the pastor’s son.
The prime suspect called junior was once sent out by his father because of the involvement in fraternity.
Earlier, BlackBox Nigeria reported that the pastor was arrested after a suspect in the murder case transferred ₦70,000 to the church’s account for fence repair which later got the pastor involved in the case.
However, the transaction raised suspicions, leading the police to investigate the pastor’s connection to the alleged criminal.
Information exclusively gathered by BlackBox Nigeria shows that the suspect, reportedly a member of a fraternity called ‘Aiye’ had received N600,000 as his share of the proceeds from the crime. He gave N400,000 to his accomplice and kept N200,000 for himself, using N70,000 to pay tithe to the church, N50,000 to his mother and N30,000 to his grandmother.
The pastor’s arrest has sparked controversy, with many questioning how the church’s account became linked to the alleged criminal’s activities.
The police are still investigating the matter, and the pastor has been granted bail but is yet to be released due to financial issues.
According to a report by Sahara reporters, the family of the missing LASU student believed that he’s not dead nor was any body found in the premises of the church as widely speculated by the media.
According to Sahara reporters, when contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, denied having any knowledge of the incident.
“We have no such report,” he said in a text message to SaharaReporters.
As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge about the complex web of relationships between the alleged criminal, the pastor, and the church.
