The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the transfer of the case involving the shooting and killing of Sergeant Onalaja Onajide to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for discreet investigation.
The deceased sergeant was attached to Ilemba Hausa Division.
The decision follows reports received by the command alleging the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa, CSP Yahya Mohammed Adeshina, of shooting the sergeant while dispersing crowds gathered in front of the station.
The DPO has arrested and detained, as his rifle has been retrieved for examination.
The commissioner of police, while expressing his condolences, ordered that an autopsy be carried out on the deceased.
Blackboxnigeria reported earlier that, unknown gunmen, on May 16, fired gunshots at the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa and the station guard, Sergeant Onalaja Onajide, who did not survive the gunshot wounds.
