The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025, have been thrown into disarray in Lagos Mainland Local Government and Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), following an unresolved intra-party crisis and ongoing litigation.

In a press statement issued by concerned members of the APC in both areas, the party faithful expressed deep concern over the suspension of the chairmanship primaries due to a legal suit (Suit No. ID/8948GCM/2025) currently before the Lagos State High Court.

The crisis was further confirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC State Secretariat, where the party’s State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, reportedly declared that no primary elections would take place in the two LGAs until the court case is resolved.

“We sympathize with our teeming supporters, delegates, and party faithful who have been preparing earnestly for this exercise,” the group said.

Despite extensive consultations, aspirants within Lagos Mainland and Yaba have reportedly failed to reach a consensus, intensifying concerns over the transparency of the process.

The group also raised alarms over alleged plans by elements within the party’s working committee to exploit the aspirants and impose candidates.

A source privy to BlackBox Nigeria told our correspondent that the delegates were not allowed to participate nor accredited due to the ongoing case and allegedly impose candidates.

“We call on the State Working Committee to reschedule the primaries for a later date and adopt revised guidelines that reflect the peculiar circumstances in our LG and LCDA,” the statement added.

The group further warned that failure to resolve the internal rift could negatively impact the APC’s chances in the forthcoming local government elections and potentially the 2027 general elections.
